Samuel was twice married. By his first wife he had two sons, James and Samuel, and two daughters, Sarah and Mary. By his second wife he had a son called Alex and a daughter, Agnes. He was a man of remarkably fine 'physic', and he was a policeman in the Town of Ayr. He died at Ayr on the 18th April 1849, aged 47. His second wife, Mary Greg, died at Prestwick on the 16th June 1902. Both were buried at Ayr Old Churchyard.
