Alexander Ballantine, lawful son of James Ballantine and Marian
Stewart was born on 23rd February 1774 (Register St Quivox).
His father may have been a John Ballantine. He became the manager
of the bleachfields for the cotton industry at Catrine. Alex
married Mary Boyle. She died 23rd march 1864.

Margaret Mackie, born to George Mackie, Grandholm, and Margaret
Brander on 27th April 1833
(Baptised by Rev. Mr Smith), from the register of births of the
Parish of Old Machar, Aberdeen.
George Mackie died of blackwater fever at Memel Docks, on the
Baltic (he was a civil engineer). His widow, nee Margaret Brander
married Mr Ingram and had a family of four. (this is Granny Ingram).
With the re - marriage of her mother, Margaret Mackie was brought
up by her aunt Elizabeth (her father's sister and known as Margaret
Boyle Mackie.
Peter Boyle, Overseer Spring Garden, and Elizabeth Mackie of
Fraserfield, were married on the 9th August 1831 by the Rev.
Dr. Forbes, from the register of marriages of the Parish of Old
Machar, Aberdeen.
James Ballantine, M.D. Catrine, Married Margaret Boyle Mackie
on the 31st August 1858 at Dundee, by Jas. K. McGavin, Minister
of U.P. Church, Tay Square. Dr Ballantine died on the 14th November
1869, aged 55 years, of scarlet fever. Margaret Boyle Mackie
died at Bonnyton, Montrose on 11th April 1912.

The Ballantine Family had previously married the Boyle Family. Peter Boyle was Dr Ballantines uncle Peter. His aunt Betty, (Mrs Peter Boyle), died at Buchanan House on 30th April 1871, aged 64.
Margaret Janet Osborne Ballantine, daughter of James Ballantine
M.D. and Margaret Boyle Mackie, married James Murdoch (6), eldest
son of James Murdoch (5) and Agnes Kennedy, in Buchanan House,
Catrine on 21st November 1894.
