C1. Alexander KNOX and Rosina HAMILTON were married in Dailly on 26th October 1849. They had at least two children:

C2. William KNOX,a colliery engine keeper, had a daughter Jemima (ch. 1865 ish, Kilmarnock - carpetsetter) Then he married Agnes GOVANS in Kilmarnock on 20th March 1868. They had at least five children:

C3. James KNOX, a colliery manager, married Jane Baird MCMILLAN in Kilmarnock on 30th December 1859. They lived at Comet Cottage, Galston Road, Hurlford. They had twelve children, all christened in Riccarton:

Then Joseph married Janet RALSTON in Cockpen, Midlothian, on 14th June 1872. They had four children:

D2. Alexander KNOX, an engineman colliery, and Jane BURTIN were married in Riccarton on 19th June 1874. They lived on Galston Road, Hurlford. They had seven children:

Elizabeth - 1885
William - 1888
Roabert - 1890

D3. James KNOX and Jenny ADAMS were married in 1887 in Bonnyrigg (Cockpen), Midlothian. They lived at 33 Campview, Bonnyrigg. They had five children, all christened at Bonnyrigg:

George Adams - 1889
Agnes Logan - 1893
Jessie Ralston - 1897 (E)
Sarah Aird - 1899

E. Jessie Ralston KNOX had two children:

Jenny - 1918 (m Jimmy REID)
George Andrew Adams - 1920 (m Kathleen TOMKINSON) (F)

Then she married Duncan BROWN and had two more sons, James and John.

F. George Andrew Adams KNOX and Kathleen TOMKINSON were married in 1943 in Burnage, Manchester and had two children:

Karon Christine KNOX (1951) and Brian Andrew KNOX (1957)

G. Karon Christine KNOX had one child:

Daisy-Kate KNOX (1982)


I hope that makes sense! Most of them were colliers, as you can see, and their various migrations seemed to chart a course round several of the pits in Ayrshire. The mass exodus to Midlothian in the 1870s apparently
corresponded with a general shortage of work on the western front, so to speak!

Most of my info has been gained from the internet, IGI (notoriously unreliable I know!) and kind people who have looked things up for me. Not living anyway near Ayrshire, the methods I used to build the other parts of my family tree (mainly the enormous local library!) were somewhat defunct in the case of my Scottish ancestors.
