She died 6 Jan 1864 at 31 Albert Street, Govan.
Therefore Jean Knox would have lost both her mother and father by the time she was about one year old. It appears that she was brought up by the Hunter family, her grandparents and her aunts:-
Ann Hunter married to Charles Andrew,
Margaret Hunter married to David Cleary, and
Jean Hunter married to Thomas Stevenson.
(Incidently, Thomas Stevenson killed Charles Andrew on 16 July 1844 in Troon, and was put on trial for culpable homicide. See page 26 of "Memories of Old Troon" by Ian M. Mackintosh, n.d.). In the 1841 census Jean Knox is with her grandparents in Wyllies Land, Portland Street, Troon, described as a female servant aged 15. (Book 4, parish 590).
Her brother David was in St. Midans (Meddans), aged 15, labourer, living with Charles and Ann Andrew.
