Examination questions often ask you to describe features of a landscape and / or explain the formation of them.It is very important that you understand the difference between 'describe' and 'explain'. In the following notes this difference has been made for you as each landform has (where necessary) the following information to help you understand it and be able to answer questions about it.

Description - This tells us what the landform looks like.
Explanation - This tells us how the landform has been created.
Diagram - You may be asked to draw or interpret a diagram. If you have to draw one, be able to annotate (lable) it and refer to the diagram in your description / explanation.

The term 'landscape' refers to an environment eg a river landscape is all the river features found in an area.
The term 'landform' refers to a single feature of the landscape eg a waterfall, a floodplain or a delta are each features of a river landscape.
